If you are perhaps very familiar with essential oils in aromatherapy or cosmetics, this is an opportunity to train yourself in a new way of using them, even more sensory! Not only will you avoid the chemicals in regular perfumes, but you will also take pride in having created your own perfume. It's pretty cool, isn't it? A unique fragrance, which suits you, and which is perfectly adapted to the situation for which you wear it, since it was created for it!
This article was updated on 08/12/2023The manufacturing process is quite simple. Simply mix essential oils with different smells, trying to respect the three classic notes present in a perfume:
Once you have chosen your three notes, make your mixture in an empty amber bottle, then let it sit for about 3 weeks. You can smell the bottle regularly to adapt the perfume and add this or that essential oil, depending on the result you want to obtain.
After these 3 weeks of patience, you can dilute the essential oil mixture in a base. If some people use alcohol, at the Compagnie des Sens, we prefer to stay natural and opt forjojoba vegetable oil as a perfume base. It is this which is often chosen, and not another vegetable oil, because its composition makes it an oil which remains intact for a long time, and its smell is quite neutral. It will allow odorous molecules to attach more easily on your skin, to prolong their scent. In addition, using a vegetable oil as a base for a perfume has the advantage of do not dry out the skin, as alcohol might do. Thus, the perfume that you have created will have a significant advantage: in addition to smelling good, your skin will be nourished and protected from attacks!
To avoid irritation and an overly powerful perfume, it will be necessary dilute the essential oil mixture in Jojoba oil. So, you can add one dose of essential oils for 6 to 8 doses of Jojoba oil, depending on the intensity of the scent you want to have. For example, if you want to make 10 ml of perfume, you can make 1 ml of essential oil mixture (i.e. 30 drops) to be diluted in 9 ml of Jojoba oil. And there you have it, your natural and personalized perfume is ready!
Creating your own interior ambiance with essential oils is a simple process, which is similar to the process of making a natural perfume with essential oils. In fact, creating your own atmosphere to diffuse amounts to designing your own interior “perfume”. Thus, you must mix essential oils with different scents, trying to respect the three classic notes present in a perfume:
Top note, which is the first we smell, which can last up to 2 hours and which evaporates relatively quickly.
Examples : citrus, green and fresh smells: Tea Tree, Basil, Lemon etc.
Heart note, which is a little more persistent and will last longer than the first, for several hours.
Examples : woody, fruity and spicy notes: Roman Chamomile, Palmarosa, Cinnamon etc.
Background note, which carries the other notes and serves as a “fixative”. This is the last note/odor you will smell and can stay for several days.
Examples : woody, suave and leathery notes: Atlas cedar, Cistus, Patchouli etc.
Once the essential oils have been chosen according to their note (top note, etc.), you simply need to make your mixture according to the oils you like. It's all a question of taste, this allows you to create a unique atmosphere that suits you.
To be sure to create a mixture that you will like, simply choose the essential oils whose smell you like and test, depending on their potency and your expectations, if the smell of the mixture satisfies you. If this does not completely satisfy you, you can modify this mixture by adding a few drops of one of the essential oils, according to your tastes.
It is important to remember that before any creation of olfactory diffusion, it is necessary to be certain that the essential oils chosen can be diffused, pure or diluted. In addition, unlike creating a classic perfume, you should not add vegetable oil because they are viscous and can damage your diffuser!
