Healing is a phenomenon that occurs following a skin injury: cut, burn or surgical operation. Naturally, the body triggers the phenomenon of healing, that is to say repair of the lesion by fibrous connective and epithelial tissue. It is a long process which involves 3 stages (the inflammatory reaction, the repair phase and the skin remodeling phase) and which depends on the type of wound, its depth and its extent. Green Clay increases the speed of healing, reducing the risk of infection and regenerating the skin. Indeed, it has healing, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, which are all useful in the case of healing. According to certain writings, Green Clay was used for a long time by pharaoh doctors for healing wounds and to relieve inflammation. Today, Green Clay is still used by some hospitals to accelerate the healing process of post-operative wounds.

In poultice

Ingredients :

  • The powderGreen clay
  • Low mineralized water (lowly chlorinated or even demineralized)

Recipe :

Add the Green Clay powder to a bowl (avoid plastic, copper or metal utensils) and lightly cover the powder with water. Leave the preparation to rest for at least an hour to encourage the dissolution of the Green Clay. Once dissolved, check that the Green Clay paste is homogeneous, smooth, neither too liquid nor too firm. Carefully spread the clay paste in a thick, loose layer (2 cm) on a natural fiber cloth (cotton or linen, for example). Apply the Green Clay poultice to the wound, ensuring that the Clay is in direct contact with the skin. Maintain the poultice with a bandage without tightening it too much to allow the Clay to breathe. Leave to act for at least 1 hour, ensuring that the Green Clay poultice retains its moisture. Spray the poultice with water or hydrosol, if necessary. Finally, remove the poultice and clean the skin with clear, lukewarm water. Repeat the application of the poultice until complete improvement.

Precautions for use:

The application of the Green Clay poultice should not be done simultaneously on two important organs (liver and kidney, for example) and at least 2 hours apart before and after the meal. In the event of any discomfort, immediately remove the Green Clay poultice and rinse with clean water.

As a complete poultice for old scars

Ingredients :

Recipe :

Follow the instructions for preparing the Green Clay poultice, then add the Italian Helichrysum hydrosol and the Italian Helichrysum essential oil. Italian Helichrysum essential oil and Helichrysum hydrosol are the two reference active ingredients to promote healing, but also to reduce blistered, acne or post-operative scars. In fact, they contain monoterpene ketones which confer healing properties to its two natural active ingredients.

Precautions for use:

This poultice should not be used by pregnant women and children under 3 years old. In addition, it is strongly not recommended to apply it in cases of coagulation disorders, taking anticoagulant treatment and in people with hemophilia. This poultice contains allergenic biochemical components due to the essential oil of Italian Helichrysum. It is best to test this essential oil before using it (two drops in the crook of the elbow for at least 24 hours to check that there is no reaction).

For further :

Old scars in particular require more time to fade. In this case, essential oils, vegetable oils as well as hydrosols increase the effects of Green Clay and reduce scars more quickly. They can be added in the preparation of the poultice or used in parallel. Among the natural active ingredients, some of them are recognized as effective against scars:

  • L’true Lavender essential oil is an oil particularly recommended in cases of wounds, burns or sunburns thanks to its healing action. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties thanks to linalyl acetate and bactericidal properties thanks to linalool. Thus, True Lavender essential oil helps relieve itching of the skin linked to healing, but also maintains a bacteria-free environment.
  • L’rosehip vegetable oil has the particularity of being effective on both recent and old scars. Indeed, it contains a natural derivative of vitamin A also called trans retinoic acid which is dermatologically recognized as healing the skin. Rosehip oil also has skin regenerating, circulatory and firming properties.
  • L’calophyll Inophyl vegetable oile contains a powerful healing active ingredient, calaustralin. Thus, this vegetable oil would accelerate the healing of wounds and burns, and repair the skin in depth.
It is also possible to use the essential oils in synergy to erase scars.

Why is it effective?

L’Green clay has multiple healing, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, all of which are useful in the case of scarring. In direct contact with the skin, green Clay accelerates the cell regeneration process through its healing properties. This effect would be conferred by the presence of alumina contained in good proportion in the Green Clay. The most diligent people will be able to observe an increase in the speed of healing and at the same time a low probability of seeing a scar on their skin. Anti-bacterial and antiseptic, Green Clay eliminates bacteria by capturing them, but also by preventing their development and by depriving them of oxygen. In addition, it mainly contains silica which gives Green Clay anti-inflammatory properties in particular. Thus, it helps relieve feelings of tightness and itching.
